If EVs pique your interest, then you may have the question that many North Charleston-area drivers have, which is: “How long does it take to charge an electric vehicle?” Electric car charging times vary based on the charging source utilized, as well as the EV itself. There are various plugs and ports available, and the electric car charging time of a Chevy Bolt will be different than that of a Ford Mustang Mach-E, for instance. Electric Car Charging Options

There are three main options for electric car charging.

  • Domestic Outlet Home Charging (Regular Outlet): Using a normal grounded (three-prong) 110V/120V charging outlet is considered Level 1 Charging. This method doesn’t necessarily provide a rapid charging speed, but it is convenient in a pinch. For a full charge, it will usually take 24 hours or more.
  • Installed Brand-Approved Domestic Charging: Upgrade to Level 2 Charging for a quicker electric car charging time. The equipment for this type of charging needs to be professionally installed and typically uses chargers that are 240V or higher. 
  • Public Charging: Public charging stations for EVs are becoming more common in the Mount Pleasant area. These stations vary in the speed of charge they can provide, but they usually offer Level 2 Charging for your convenience.

Electric Car Charging Time: Chevy Models

As previously mentioned, your electric car charging time can take days with Level 1 Charging and hours with Level 2 Charging. The 2022 Chevy Bolt and 2022 Chevy Bolt EUV are quite innovative in that the Driver Information Center provides information on battery range and driving history so you can stay informed on how far you can drive in James Island before your next charge. Also important to note is that the Bolt can drive an EPA-estimated 259 miles on a full charge, and the Bolt EUV can drive an EPA-estimated 247 miles on a full charge. 

Keep an eye out for additional EVs to be added to the Chevy lineup, like the Chevy Silverado EV.
