How to Complete the Chevy Key Fob Programming Sequence

To program a new Chevy remote start key fob, Chevy Silverado key fob, or nearly any other Chevy key fob, the process looks fairly similar. Here’s what you’ll want to do, outlined in six simple steps:

1. Use your Chevy key to unlock your car doors.
2. Get inside your vehicle and make sure you shut all the doors completely. Next, insert the key into the ignition, but DO NOT start the vehicle.
3. Press and hold the unlock button on the driver’s side door. Next, turn your key to the “On” position. (You should see the interior lights and radio turn on, but again, the engine should NOT be on).
4. Turn the key back to the “Off” position. Turn it on and off once more, quickly. (In total, you’ll turn it on – off – on – off).
5. Let go of the unlock button.
6. After letting go of the unlock button, you should hear the door locks switch on and off, which is an indicator that the programming sequence can begin.
7. On your Chevy key fob, press and hold the “Unlock” and “Lock” buttons at the same time until you hear the door locks go on and off once again. If you hear this, it means you’ve successfully programmed your Chevy key fob!
8. Put the newly programmed key into the ignition in the on position to close out the programming sequence.
